There’s something about golden hour in the studio that just hits different. The light is warm and heavy, the kind that wraps around you like a slow exhale. It’s that ooey-goey light and I will never get over these special Summer sessions. I’ve been offering them annually for a few years now, and it’s simply a favorite. 

This session was one of those perfect summer nights. She’s a fellow Minnesota boudoir photographer, so this was actually her second shoot with me. We both share the same love for that dreamy, sunset light that only lasts for a few weeks each year. And we caught it at its absolute best for this session! She knew she had to get into the studio just in time before we lose the light. I think every photographer knows that urgency.

This session started slow. Quiet music and that calm kind of energy that only happens when the sun is draping it’s last light over the day. 

The first look she wore was a bold black set. It was perfect for a golden hour in the studio moment. Sure. Moody. Bold. The same light that is so soft & dreamy during the day, turned rich and dramatic. It carves out highlights and shadows that made everything feel cinematic. 

Then we switched to the second outfit: a delicate lilac lingerie set. (Similar to this one! If you loved it as much as I did and want one for yourself). The soft lace with embroidered details that caught the light in the prettiest way. As the sun dropped lower, we leaned into movement and natural poses. Her red hair vibrant in the light. She was a VIBE. 

That’s what I love most about golden hour in the studio sessions like this.

 It’s not about being perfectly posed or overproduced, it’s about chasing the light and letting it do its thing. You get to just exist in the moment, feel grounded in your body, and soak in that golden glow that only summer can bring. Sign me up every time.
