The photography genre has grown leaps and bounds from what it first was. We had film, of course which led to digital photography (where we’ve gotten to expand and emulate film pretty well!), went out of style, and now it’s a “must have” when having professional photos taken! It’s being added to weddings, births, and all other kinds of photography. So, why not also put your boudoir sessions on film?

Film photography is a different ball game than digital photography. Newer cameras have been released, but there is something beautiful and classic about whipping out these older versions that have seen so much.

There are a few advantages to having boudoir sessions on film

1. The aesthetic is totally dreamy. These photos, once developed, usually have a grainy look to them, & the colors are a little more muted. It adds a romantic quality to the photos which is great for something as loving and intimate as boudoir.
2. You can’t overthink it in the moment to catch moments. As photographers, we already have to be hyper-aware and ready so that we don’t miss any of the good stuff. We can overthink digital tools in our hands that show us a live view and give instant access. With film, you can’t really do that. We’ve got to commit and see what beautiful art is madefrom it later.
3. It’s skillset not everyone has. Since the tools can be expensive and there’s a steeper learning curve, there’s a lot of photographers who want to do this but can’t seem to make it work. Having a photographer who knows how to work film, means they understand the craft of photography on a deeper level.
