Even though my first love is boudoir, I love to photograph different things that let me be creative. So when I got an inquiry for circus performer headshots, I was 100% in. I knew we could make something unique and beautiful for her.
One thing I knew we wanted to highlight (pun intended) was her as if she was on a stage. So we brought out this beautiful artificial light and played around with it. I think it ended up looking so realistic and editorial, especially with the use of some of her other circus props. We decided to bring in her trick hula hoop and a couple of stools as well!
We started with the light and then eventually switched things up for a more “traditional” headshot setup to make these photos truly versatile for her. It’s very easy to have “boring” copy and paste photos like the rest of the headshots out there, but just like with a business – you want to stand out in a crowd! Especially for circus performer headshots!!
It’s so rewarding to have people come to you and tell you how beautiful and creative your work is. It also makes people way more likely to hire you over others.
If you want to fill your headshots with personality, I recommend bringing props just like this! Something to hold in your arms or lean against is always a safe bet. Then, it’s just up to body language and interaction. You can bring your favorite books, your laptop, or anything that is a nod to what you do and why you do it.
The best news is that you don’t have to stop here! Once we’ve worked together & you’ve got a good idea of how we work together, you can come on in for a boudoir session, just like this client plans to! It’ll even take away some of the nerves.
(PS: If you wanna see some more non-boudoir images I’ve created, check out this maternity session we did in my studio!) In the meantime, enjoy these circus performer headshots below!
