When this client stepped into the studio, sultry lingerie in hand, I knew we were going to have a good session. She had reached out a few months prior, and inquired about booking a session with me. She was at that point in her life where she’d gotten her spark back after having kids and was heading into a big life transition. She wanted both photos to document herself at this moment, and the confidence she knew would come from a day in the studio.
I think every mother goes through some sort of phase where you “lose yourself” after having kids, but it’s really just a period of time when you’re adopting a new role in your identity and finding your stride in a new reality. I’ve heard it compared to flamingos who lose their pink color after having babies, only to regain it back.
When we met up in the studio, we had perfect lighting. The way it filters in through the windows in my space always inspires me, even after all this time. We played music, chatted the entire afternoon, and held space for her to really step back into her new identity. She shared with me that she was making some big changes in her life, and this session felt like an empowering way to match the moment.
I find that people often end up in the studio during life transitions. When you know you’re saying goodbye to a reality you used to know, and you’re stepping into a brave new future… it can be really grounding to spend a day just expressing and capturing yourself. As a Minneapolis boudoir photographer, that’s one of my favorite parts of this job. Helping you do that.
We started with a simple look: cropped tee and neutral undies. You know I’m loving the casual “I just woke up” vibe. So I love this start to our session. We transitioned into a white lace bodysuit with a deep cut v neck, and cut out strap details. Lace photographs so well, especially in the studio light. We also leaned into the lace and straps with a classic two-piece set with garters. I loved this way this popped in contrast to the camel leather couch in my studio.
The next piece she picked was a black leather strappy number, that looked freakin’ amazing on her. Your boudoir session is such a fun time to play with different looks and vibes, and she killed it. We wrapped up her session with some “Just the Sheet” shots. But we added a twist with some knee-high leg warmers, which added the perfect pop in the photos.
