When I first started my business as a Minneapolis boudoir photographer, I didn’t really know exactly what you needed to do to prep for your session. I mean, I knew the basics but it took years of experience and practice to learn the tangible, practical advice I give my clients on how to prep for your boudoir shoot.
And now, I’m gonna share that here on the blog for you!
So whether you’re a client with me, want to be someday, or live on the other side of the world – these tips and tricks can help you get the most from your intimate portrait session.
Try On New Lingerie In Advance: If you’re planning on getting new pieces for your shoot, make sure you buy them with enough time to try them on & decide which ones you like. We usually have time for 3 outfits, but bring as many as you’d like to have options on the day-of. The pieces you know you’re gonna keep, cut the tags out of to avoid them showing up in photos.
Wear Sunscreen in The Months Leading Up To Your Shoot: We’ve talked about this before (here) but especially in the Summer, you need to be extra careful about tan lines. I know Minnesota has an amazing boating and Summer activities culture (which I love!!), but if you have a boudoir shoot on the books, be super aware of that sunscreen and don’t get tan lines! I do not edit them out. So sunscreen is your best bet, and/or schedule a spray tan session before your shoot.
Bring Lotion! I recommend packing your favorite lotion to bring to your shoot. If you apply it right beforehand it helps your skin look all glowy! I will edit skin to bring out that glow, but it creates the best look if you apply some lotion right before shooting. Nothing glittery or too shiny please! Just normal lotion is great.
Get Sleep and Hydrate! This sounds so basic but honestly it can help a lot. Don’t underestimate the power of a good night sleep. Being well rested & hydrated means bright eyes & fresh skin! Catch all that beauty sleep!
